Privacy Policy
SciPrep is a free study platform built by one person. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what the app stores about you and who else touches that data. No dark patterns, no fine print that contradicts the summary.

Who we are
SciPrep is an independent Science Olympiad study platform. It is not a company with a legal department — it is a project run by a solo developer. There are no investors to answer to and no advertising business that depends on your data.
SciPrep is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Science Olympiad, Inc.
What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work:
- Account details. When you sign up, our authentication provider (Clerk) handles your email address, your name, and — if you use a social login — your profile picture. We mirror those into your SciPrep profile so the app can greet you and show your avatar.
- Your study activity. As you practice, we store your question attempts and answers, which questions you got right or wrong, the favorites you star, the per-question notes you write, and the aggregate analytics we derive from all of that (accuracy, streaks, weak topics).
- Reports you send. If you flag a broken question, report incorrect information, or message us through the contact form, we keep what you wrote so we can act on it.
- A few functional cookies. Described in the Cookies section below.
We do not collect payment information (payments are not live), we do not run advertising or third-party analytics trackers, and we do not buy data about you from anyone.
How we use it
Your data is used to run the features you came for:
- To sign you in and keep your session secure.
- To save your progress, show your analytics, and turn your mistakes into review drills.
- To generate AI tutoring, grading, and explanations when you ask for them (see AI features).
- To respond to the reports and messages you send us.
We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use your study answers to profile you for anything beyond the study features described here.
Who processes your data
A handful of infrastructure providers process data on our behalf so the app can exist. They act as processors — they hold data to provide their service, not to use it for their own purposes.
- Clerk — authentication. Stores your login credentials, email, name, and avatar.
- Supabase — our database. Stores your profile and all of your study data. Access is protected by row-level security so you can only read and write your own rows.
- An AI model provider — powers the optional AI features. See below for exactly what is sent and when.
Each of these providers has its own privacy practices. We only send them the data they need to do their job.
AI features
When you use an AI feature — the tutor, AI grading of a free-response answer, or an on-demand explanation — SciPrep sends the relevant context to an AI model provider so it can respond. That context can include the question you are working on, your answer, and the messages you type to the tutor.
Today those requests are routed through OpenRouter to Anthropic's Claude models; the specific provider may change as the app evolves, but the principle stays the same: only the context needed to answer your request is sent, and it is sent only when you actively trigger an AI feature. AI features are optional and are not part of the core study experience.
Data retention
We keep your account and study data for as long as your account exists, because that is what makes your progress and analytics useful over a season. When you delete your account, your profile and the data tied to it are deleted along with it (see below).
One exception: reports you submit are kept even if you later delete your account, but they are detached from your identity so we can still fix the problems you flagged.
Your choices and deletion
You can delete your account yourself at any time from Settings → Account. Deleting your account removes your login and cascades to the study data associated with it. This is permanent and cannot be undone.
If you want to correct information or ask a question about your data, use the contact form.
Children's privacy
Science Olympiad includes middle-school competitors, so we take this seriously. SciPrep is intended for students aged 13 and older. If you are under 13, please do not create an account without a parent or guardian's involvement and consent.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate parental consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the "last updated" date at the top and, where the change is significant, make a reasonable effort to flag it in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
